Cherokee

Cherokee (from Brooklyn, New York) is an R&B singer, songwriter, producer, & model who started her career in the 90s. She started writing poetry when she was 10 and formed her first band when she was 13 years old.
At the age of 16, Cherokee met a local singer\songwriter named Auto (whom she married) and they released an album, "Naked Music" in 1992 on Morgan Creek Records, but the album flopped & Auto became very abusive towards Cherokee and by 1995, they were through.

Later on, Cherokee moved to Los Angeles, California where she signed on with manager Herb Trawick (who was also Brian McKnight's manager at the time). Trawick took Cherokee to RCA Records in 1999 and she landed a production deal.
During that same year, Cherokee released her debut album "I Love You....Me" which didn't appear to make the Billboard album charts.
The only single released from the album, "Ooh Wee Wee" peaked at #88 on Billboard's Hot R&B\Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 3 weeks. Cherokee performed on shows such as "Soul Train" and "Motown Live."

Cherokee was featured in magazines such as "Rolling Stone," "Jet," "Vogue," "Esquire" and "Billboard" magazine & even appeared in the "New York Times." She was also featured in a large ad campaign for popular clothing outlet, Gap.
Cherokee's sophomore album, "Soul Parade" was scheduled for release in 2001. She worked with musicians such as Outkast, Bilal, Jill Scott, Rahsaan Patterson, Anthony Hamilton, Floetry, and Musiq Soulchild.

Due to the division of RCA Records responsible for releasing the album ended up folding & attempts to release it through Arista Records failed, the album was never released. Cherokee's second album can be found as a bootleg copy on Ebay, but in 2010, Cherokee released the album herself through her website.

Only two singles were released from her shelved album "Nectarine" (featuring Outkast's Andre 3000) and "I Swear." Neither of them made the charts at all.

After "Soul Parade," Cherokee performed a few shows in California and Japan, then took a break for 6 years. She married Grammy-award-winning record producer\mix engineer, Neal Pogue and gave birth to a daughter named Dream.

Later on, Cherokee started using MySpace.com to connect with her audience to get a feel for their interest in a new Cherokee album and found a lot of interest. Cherokee has been writing & recording demos along with playing local venues such as the Temple Bar.

In 2011, Cherokee (now Shock Mama Cherry) along with Brazilian guitarist Card started the duo, "Esprit De Corps" (or EDC) and they are currently performing live.
