Samantha Fox

Samantha Fox (born Samantha Karen Fox on April 15, 1966 in Mile End, London) is a pop singer\model who was well-known for her provocative image and suggestive music during the 80's.

Samantha starred in theater as a child and appeared on television when she was 10 years old. When Samantha was 14, she started her first band, but she soon turned to modeling. Samantha got publicity for posing topless in the Daily Sun newspaper's "Page Three" feature. She won the "Page Three Girl of the Year" award between 1984 & 1986 and also posed nude for British men's magazines. At age 20, Samantha retired from "Page Three" modeling.
In 1986, Samantha released her debut album, "Touch Me" on Jive Records. The album peaked at #24 on the Billboard 200 and #17 on the UK Albums chart.
Her first single, "Touch Me (I Wanna Feel Your Body)" peaked at #3 on the UK Singles chart, #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, #27 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles chart, and #41 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart.
The second single from the album, "Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)" peaked at #10 on the UK Singles chart, but was unsuccessful in the US, peaking only at #87 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The third single, "Hold on Tight" didn't peak in the US, but peaked at #26 on the UK Singles chart.
The last single released from the album, "I'm All You Need" didn't peak in the US, but charted at #41 on the UK Singles chart. Samantha's debut album was certified Silver in the UK, Gold in the US, and 2x Platinum in Canada where the album got heavy promotion and broke into the mainstream Canadian music market.
In 1987, Samantha released her self-titled sophomore album which peaked at #51 on the Billboard 200 and #22 on the UK Albums chart. The album charted moderately in countries such as Canada, Australia, Sweden, and Germany. The album was also certified Gold in the US and Platinum in Canada.
The first single from the album, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now" peaked at #8 on the UK Singles chart. In the US, the song peaked at #80 on the Billboard Hot 100, #13 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #40 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart. Internationally, the song was moderately successful.
The second single, "I Surrender (To the Spirit of the Night)" peaked at #25 on the UK Singles chart, but wasn't released in the US. The song managed to chart in the Top 40 in most European countries.
The third single, "I Promise You (Get Ready)" peaked at #58 on the UK Singles chart and #40 on the German Singles chart, but like the previous single, it wasn't released at all in the US.
The fourth single, "True Devotion" didn't peak in the US and only managed to peak at #62 on the UK Singles chart. The song managed to peak at #32 on the German Singles chart and topped the charts in Canada.
The last single released from the album, "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" peaked at #3on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Samantha's highest chart appearance in the US. The song topped Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, peaked at #9 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, and reached #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Sales chart. In the UK, the song peaked at #31 on the charts.
In 1989, Samantha released her third album, "I Wanna Have Some Fun" which peaked at #37 on the Billboard 200 chart and #41 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart. In the UK, the album peaked at #46 on the UK Albums chart. The album became Samantha's third album in the US to be certified Gold.
The first single released from the album, "Love House" peaked at #32 on the UK Singles chart, #10 on the Netherlands Singles chart, #25 on the German Singles chart, and #19 on the Swiss Singles chart. In the US, the song peaked at #13 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart and #23 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The second single, "I Only Wanna Be With You" peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100, #12 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles chart, and #46 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart.
The last single, the title song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, #19 on Billboard's Hot R&B\Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, and #2 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart. In the UK, the song only peaked at #63 on the UK Singles chart and the song also peaked at #10 on the Canadian Singles chart.
In 1991, Samantha released her fourth album, "Just One Night" which didn't peak at all in the US or UK, but managed to peak at #63 in Canada. Despite help from Full Force and Robert Cilvilles and David Cole of C&C Music Factory, the album failed to make any impact whatsoever.
A year later in 1992, Jive Records released Samantha's greatest hits album which included 3 new tracks. Samantha co-wrote and performed the song, "Go For the Heart" for UK submission in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1995, but it only managed to place 4th and wasn't chosen as the representative track, but the song was a moderate hit in a few European countries.
In 1997, 6 years after her last album, Samantha released her fifth album, "21st Century Fox" which showed a new look and style. The album was moderately successful in Scandinavia and Europe. The album received little promotion, but is still a favorite with some fans.

Samantha appeared in a few reality television shows such as "Celebrity Wife Swap," "The Club," and "I'm A Celebrity....Get Me Out of Here" in the UK. In 1990, Samantha starred on an episode of "Charles in Charge" as a fictional rock star named Samantha Steele. In 2004, Samantha collaborated with Swedish musician Mats Soderlund (also known as Klaus) for a remake of Samantha's hit song, "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)".
In 2005, Samantha released her sixth album in seven years, "Angel With an Attitude" which was moderately successful in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2008, Samantha released the single, "Midnight Lover." In September 2009, Samantha was a guest singer on Canadian musician Marc Mysterio's song, "Tomorrow (Is Another Day)." Samantha's first three albums have been released in the US with bonus tracks.
In December 2009, Samantha released her newest greatest hits album that includes rare and unreleased music. Samantha has a civil partnership with her girlfriend and manager, Myra Stratton.

Champaign

Champaign are an interracial R&B\adult contemporary band whose members originally consisted of singers Pauli Carmen & Rena Jones, keyboardists Dana Walden & Michael Day, guitarist Howard Reeder, bassist Michael Reed and percussonist\drummer Rocky Maffitt from Champaign, Illinois.
In 1981, they released their debut album "How Bout Us?" which peaked at #53 on the Billboard 200 and #14 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The title song became a hit, peaking at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart for two weeks and peaked at #4 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 22 weeks. It also managed to reach the top 5 in the UK.

 The follow-up single "I'm on Fire" managed to peak at #73 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 5 weeks.
In 1983, the band released their sophomore album "Modern Heart" which peaked at #64 on the Billboard 200 and #9 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.

The first single "Try Again" became another pop hit for Champaign, peaking at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, #6 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart and #2 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 25 weeks.

The follow-up single "Let Your Body Rock" peaked at #62 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.

In 1984, Champaign released their third album, "Woman in Flames" which peaked at #184 on the Billboard 200 and #45 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single "Off and on Love" peaked at #10 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.

The follow-up single from the album "This Time" peaked at #43 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 12 weeks.

During the mid-80s, Pauli Carman left Champaign to start a solo career. He released two moderately successful solo albums. During that time, not much had been heard from Champaign throughout the rest of the 80s.
In 1991, Champaign released their last album to date, "Champaign IV" which failed to peak on the Billboard 200, but managed to peak at #72 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.

The album was unsuccessful and the only single to chart was "Trials of the Heart" which only peaked at #64 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks.

After that, it seemed as if Champaign faded into obscurity, but since 2008, the band has reformed with a new line-up featuring original lead vocalist Pauli Carman, vocalists Leah, Carma & Diana, guitarist Terry Richmond, bassist William Dale III, saxophonist Dean Knox and drummer Noel.

As for the original line-up, drummer Rocky Maffit continues to be active in the music business these days. and was reported to be working on a memoir.  Sadly in 2001, keyboardist Michael Day passed away from cancer. It's unknown what the other original members of the band are up to these days.

Lisa Keith

Lisa Keith (born Lisa Carlson) was a pop singer who is well known as a backup singer for artists such as Karyn White, Alexander O'Neal, Janet Jackson, the S.O.S. Band, and New Edition during the 80's and 90's. Lisa also wrote songs for Nona Hendryx and New Edition.
In 1987, Lisa was featured on Herb Alpert's song, "Making Love in the Rain" along with Janet Jackson. The song was a moderate pop hit, peaking at #35 on the Billboard Hot 100, #21 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, and #7 on Billboard's R&B chart.
In 1992, Lisa was featured on MC Lyte's song, "Ice Cream Dream" which managed to peak at #11 on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart. The song was featured on the "Mo Money" movie soundtrack.
In August 1993, Lisa released her debut album, "Walkin' in the Sun" which didn't chart at all on the Billboard 200.
Lisa's first single, "Better Than You" became her biggest hit to date, peaking at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100, #29 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, and #12 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream chart.
The second single, "I'm in Love" wasn't as successful as Lisa's previous single, peaking only at #84 on the Billboard Hot 100. Another single, "Love is Alive and Well" was released, but flopped on the charts.

After that, not much had been heard from Lisa and she married Spencer Bernard, who is also a musician. Today, Lisa is back in the music scene with a new project in Minneapolis called "Lisa Keith and Good City Soul."

The Jonzun Crew

The Jonzun Crew were an R&B funk\ hip-hop group from the early 80's consisting of singer Michael Johnson and his brothers, Maurice Starr & Soni Johnson along with Carl (whose nickname was "Captain Fingers").
In 1982, the group released their first single, "Pack Jam (Look Out for The OVC)" which peaked at #13 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart and #36 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart.
A year later in 1983, the Jonzun Crew released their debut album, "Lost in Space" which peaked at #66 on the Billboard 200 and #17 on Billboard's R&B albums chart.
Their second single, "Space Cowboy" peaked at #12 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart, but didn't chart on the dance charts at all.
The third single, "Space is the Place" peaked at #31 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart and #63 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart.
The last single from the album, "We are The Jonzun Crew" which peaked at #37 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart.
In 1984, the Jonzun Crew released their sophomore album, "Down to Earth" which wasn't quite as successful as their debut album.
In 1990, the Jonzun Crew's last album to date, "Cosmic Love" was released to little success. It's unknown how well it did.

Maurice Starr and Michael Johnson went onto help boy bands New Edition and New Kids on the Block to fame. Michael had a moderate solo career under the name "Michael Jonzun" and worked on various artists' releases.

Puff Johnson

Puff Johnson (born Ewayna Johnson on December 10, 1972 in Detroit, Michigan) was a female singer\songwriter from the mid-90's. She collaborated with artists such as Tupac Shakur and Somethin' For the People.
In May of 1996, Puff released her debut album, "Miracle" which peaked at #34 on Billboard's Heatseekers albums chart and #61 on Billboard's R&B albums chart.
The first single, "Forever More" became Puff's biggest hit to date, peaking at #63 on the Billboard Hot 100, #31 on Billboard's Hot R&B\Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, and #22 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart.
Puff's second single, "All Over Your Face" peaked at #57 on Billboard's Hot R&B\Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, but failed to make any impact on the Billboard Hot 100.

Puff released the single, "Over & Over" which flopped on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts. The song was featured on "The First Wives Club" movie soundtrack. Internationally, the song was moderately successful in the UK, Australia, and the Netherlands.

In 1997, Puff toured as an opening act for Michael Jackson and 3T in Europe. Puff was one of the co-writers on Leela James' 2005 debut album, "A Change is Gonna Come."

Since January of 2009, Puff resided in South Africa following her concert in Johannesburg, attributing the decision to relocate there to the friendly & warm people she had met throughout her journey in the country.

Sadly on June 24, 2013, Puff passed away from cervical cancer. She was 40 years old. Puff was a talented singer and will be missed dearly.
