Alfonso started his music career by singing backup for R. Kelly and ended up working with him for six months. Although he was working with R. Kelly, Alfonso continued to stay in school, attending Roosevelt University in Chicago where he learned about music production and engineering.
In 1996, Alfonso released his debut album, "Blacka da Berry" which peaked at #44 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart and #17 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart.

The follow-up single "Weekend Thang" peaked at #90 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #35 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks. The success of Alfonso's debut album had him working on his sophomore album, but unfortunately, Def Squad moved to Motown Records after EMI Records closed and Alfonzo wasn't able to release his second album.
These days, it appears as if Alfonzo is still active in the music business. In 2009, he released his self-titled album which is available on Amazon.com and iTunes.
