Lil Suzy


Lil Suzy (born Suzanne Casale in Brooklyn, New York on March 1, 1979) is a female freestyle\dance singer.

She started her career when she was five years old when an agent saw her singing cover songs by popular artists such as Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.
After that, Lil Suzy was booked to perform at New York nightspots such as Studio 54. She was signed to her first record label when she was eight years old and performed on "Star Search" in 1987, but didn't win. Around that time, she released her first single, "Randy" on Fever Records.
In 1991, twelve-year-old Lil Suzy released her debut album, "Love Can't Wait" on Warlock Records. It's unknown how or if the album ever charted.
Lil Suzy scored her first pop hit with the single, "Take Me In Your Arms" which peaked at #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August of 1992.

The song was certified Gold and by the end of 1992, Lil Suzy was named "Best New Dance Artist" by Billboard Magazine.
In 1993, Lil Suzy released her second album, "Back To Dance" on Warlock Records which also didn't appear to make the Billboard charts.
The album featured a cover version of Vicki Sue Robinson's song, "Turn the Beat Around." After the album's release, she and her parents started Empress Records which made Lil Suzy the youngest record label president in the music biz ever.

In 1995, Lil Suzy released her third album, "Life Goes On" which didn't appear to make the charts at all.
The first single, "Promise Me" peaked at #62 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February of 1995, #17 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #26 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart.
Three more singles from the album: "Now and Forever," "When I Fall in Love," and "Just Can't Get Over You" were released, but it's unknown how they made the charts.

Lil Suzy continued performing while focusing on her high school studies and even appeared on the hit talk show, "Jenny Jones."
In August of 1997, Lil Suzy released her fourth album, "Paradise." It's unknown how or if the album ever charted.
The first single released from the album, "Can't Get You Out of My Mind" peaked at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August of 1997 and #14 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The second single, "I Still Love You" peaked at #94 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November of 1998 and #32 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The third single, "Memories" managed to peak at #105 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.
The last single from the album, "You're The Only One" in 1999. It's unknown how or if the single ever charted.
In 1999, Lil Suzy released her first compilation album, "Lil Suzy: The Megamix" that included remixes of her biggest hit songs.

In 2000, she opened her own nail & hair salon in Staten Island, New York while continuing to tour in the United States and Canada.

In 2001, Lil Suzy recorded a single, "Treat Me Right" which was a big dance hit in Canada. During that same year, a tribute fan-site to Lil Suzy called "Lil Suzy's Paradise.com" was launched. It became such a hit with fans, it eventually became her official website.

In the fall of that same year, Lil Suzy released a promo-only single, "From the Inside" under her real name "Suzanne Casale." The song was heard on KTU Radio in New York.

Later, she recorded a single called "Just a Freak" with singer Stephanie and was scheduled for release on the record label, 24\7 Records, but the label filed for bankruptcy and the single went unreleased.
In January of 2002, Lil Suzy released her second compliation album, "Lil Suzy: The Greatest Hits." During that same year, she recorded the songs "Still I Cry" and "You'll See" which were available on the "EuroFreestyle" compliation CD.
In April of 2002, Lil Suzy collaborated with freestyle musician Collage on a cover version of the Human League's hit song, "Don't You Want Me" which was released in Germany.

Near the end of 2003, Lil Suzy was engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Marc Melone. In 2004, Lil Suzy began performing throughout the United States with singers Angel, The Original Cover Girl (aka Angel from the Cover Girls) & Lisette Melendez under the name "S.A.L" and toured the country together.

During that same year, she wrote & recorded the dance track, "I'm in Love." By the end of 2005, Lil Suzy was married and she continued to perform throughout 2006.

In 2007, she gave birth to her daughter, Angelica and after taking time off, she returned to performing in 2008.
In March of 2009, Lil Suzy recorded the dance track "Dance Tonight" which was digitally released in May, becoming her first independent release. In September of 2009, she gave birth to a son named Marc Anthony.

In the spring of 2010, Lil Suzy continued to tour throughout North America as well as performing with "S.A.L." Outside the music scene, she is also a certified medical assistant and continues to perform today.

Jade


Jade was an all-girl R&B group from the 90s that consisted of members Joi Marshall & Tonya Kelly (from Chicago, Illinois) and Diana "Di" Reed (from Houston, Texas).

Joi was raised listening to Motown, especially Diana Ross. Tonya grew up listening to jazz singers such as Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughan. Di sang gospel music anywhere she could.

The group (first known as JAD) originally consisted of Joi and two other members, Angie & Debbie.

After Angie and Debbie were dropped from the group, Tonya and Di were signed to the group by music producer Vassal Benford and the group's name was extended to "Jade."
In 1992, Jade was featured on the "Class Act" movie soundtrack with the song, "I Wanna Love You" which peaked at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100, #3 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, #27 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream chart, #32 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #7 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks.

In the U.K., the song peaked at #13 on the U.K. Singles chart.
During that same year, Jade released their debut album, "Jade to the Max" which peaked at #56 on the Billboard 200, #19 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart, and #10 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart.

In the U.K., the album managed to peak at #43 on the U.K. Albums chart.

The follow-up single, "Don't Walk Away" became their biggest hit to date, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, #5 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream chart, #20 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, topped Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, and #2 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 37 weeks.

In the U.K., the song managed to peak at #7 on the U.K. Singles chart. The success of the single landed the trio television appearances on "The Tonight Show," "The Arsenio Hall Show," and "Top of the Pops" in the U.K.

Jade was featured on R&B music act, P.O.V.'s single, "All Thru the Night" which was a moderate R&B hit.
The third single from the album, "One Woman" peaked at #22 on the Billboard Hot 100, #3 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, #36 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #16 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 30 weeks.
The last single from the album, "Looking For Mr. Do Right" peaked at #69 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. The group's debut album was certified platinum.
Due to the group's popularity, Jade was given a session on BET's "Listening Party Live" which was soon made into a CD in 1993.

The album peaked at #67 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart, but the sales for the album were unsuccessful and Jade was the only music act to have a "Listening Party" album released.
In 1994, Jade released their second and final album to date, "Mind, Body, and Song" which peaked at #80 on the Billboard 200 and #16 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single from the album, "Five-Four-Three-Two (Yo! Time Is Up)" was moderately successful, peaking at #72 on the Billboard Hot 100, #17 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, #23 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, and #13 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks.
The follow-up single, "Every Day of the Week" peaked at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100, #13 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, #12 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream chart, and #15 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart (along with the song, "If the Mood is Right"), staying on the chart for 20 weeks.

The song was featured on the "Beverly Hills 90210: The College Years" soundtrack and the video for "Every Day of the Week" was featured during the end credits of the show.

Due to the song's success, Jade's sophomore album went Gold.
Due to mismanagement of their funding by the group's record label, Jade disbanded, but they briefly reunited to contribute the song, "Keep On Risin'" on the movie soundtrack to "The Sixth Man."

The song peaked at #50 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.

In 2004, Joi Marshall wrote a book entitled "Answers to the 20 Most Asked Questions About the Music Business."

In 2007, she released her a gospel album called "Testimony & Praise." She was also a former A&R representative for Quincy Jones' Qwest Records label.

These days, Joi is currently starting a business called BandofBusinessWomen Network.

Di Reed is a backup singer for Rod Stewart and is also a songwriter. Tonya Kelly has her own interior design firm called Tonya Kelly & Associates, LLC.

Michel'le

R&B singer Michel'le (born Michel'le Toussant in 1970 in Los Angeles, California) may have a  squeaky childlike voice when it comes to talking, but when she sings, my goodness, what a voice!

She was originally the featured female vocalist on rap group World Class Wreckin' Cru's 1987 single, "Turn Off the Lights" and was later signed to late rapper Eazy-E's Ruthless Records label.
In 1989, Michel'le released her self-titled debut album which peaked at #35 on the Billboard 200 chart and #5 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart. The album was produced by DJ Yella, Laylaw, and her then-boyfriend, Dr. Dre.
Michel'le's first single, "No More Lies" became a hit, peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, topped Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #2 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart for 23 weeks. In the U.K., the song peaked at #78 on the U.K. Singles chart.
The second single from the album, "Nicety" peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100, #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #5 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 16 weeks.
The third single, "Keep Watchin'" peaked at #43 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #65 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.

In 1996, Michel'le was featured on Tha Dogg Pound's single, "Let's Play House" on Death Row Records.

In 1998, Michel'le released her second album, "Hung Jury" which was a commercial failure. She and Dr. Dre split up after he left Death Row Records.

She had a child, Marcel with Dr. Dre and later had another child, Bailei with Sug Knight, but her relationship with him was short-lived.

In 2003, Michel'le appeared on the Dysfunktional Family Soundtrack. After taking a hiatus, Michel'le began performing at live events.

In February of 2010, she began her nationwide tour including cities such as Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, & Atlanta.

In May of that same year, while on tour, Michel'le was invited to perform at the Females of Hip Hop Awards in Los Angeles.

A year later, the Females of Hip Hop Awards honored her with the "Legendary Songstress Award."

In 2011, she released a new song entitled "Freedom to Love."

These days, Michel'le continues to tour and in 2012, she made her stage debut in the play, "Do You Trust Your Best Friend?" along with legendary R&B singer, Angela Winbush.

In addition to acting, she is also doing voice projects. She is currently working on her new project that is yet to be released.

René & Angela

René (born Jimmy René Moore on March 19, 1959 in Los Angeles, California) and Angela (born on January 18, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri) were an R&B duo from the 80s.

René is the brother of Rufus member, Bobby Watson and he played with the Brothers Johnson during the 70s.

Angela began singing in church and studied architecture at Howard University, singing only to earn extra money. She was also in a group called "Hot Tea" while attending Howard. By 1977, Angela changed her major to music education and recorded a demo.

After shopping the demo to various record labels to no success, but thanks to a personal introduction by music businessman, Wayne K. Garfield, the demo was heard by New York disc jockey, Gary Byrd, who knew Stevie Wonder and made the call that landed Angela a spot in Stevie's backing vocal group, Wonderlove.

While working with Stevie, Angela learned a lot about writing & arranging songs. Angela met René while she was in Los Angeles and the two of them formed a duo.
In 1980, René & Angela released their self-titled debut album on Capitol Records. It's unknown how or if the album made the charts.
The first single from the album, "Do You Really Love Me" peaked at #43 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.
The follow-up single, "Everything We Do" peaked at #39 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks.
In 1981, the duo released their sophomore album, "Wall to Wall" which peaked at #100 on the Billboard 200 and #15 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single, "I Love You More" peaked at #14 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 17 weeks and #31 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart along with the song "I Wanna Be Close To You."
The title song peaked at #37 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks. The third single, "Imaginary Playmates" peaked at #26 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.
The last single from the album, "Secret Rendezvous" peaked at #54 on the U.K. Singles chart in 1985, staying on the chart for 3 weeks.
In 1983, René & Angela released their third album, "Rise" which peaked at #33 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single, "Banging the Boogie" peaked at #33 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.

The follow-up single, "My First Love" peaked at #12 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks. They had originally planned to produce it as a song for Janet Jackson's self-titled debut album, but Janet reportedly turned it down, so the duo recorded the song for themselves. In 2000, R&B singers Avant and Keke Wyatt scored a hit on the R&B charts with their version of the song.

René & Angela began writing and producing music together and individually for artists such as Janet Jackson, Stephanie Mills, Michael Jackson, and the Isley Brothers. In 1984, the duo signed to Mercury Records.
In 1985, René & Angela released their fourth and final album together, "Street Called Desire" which peaked at #64 on the Billboard 200 and #5 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single, "Save Your Love (For #1)" peaked at #101 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart, #3 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and topped Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart for 2 weeks, staying on the chart for 17 weeks. In the U.K., the song peaked at #66 on the U.K. Singles chart.
The second single, "I'll Be Good" peaked #47 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, topped Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #4 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks. In the U.K., the song peaked at #22 on the U.K. Singles chart.
The third single from the album, "Your Smile" peaked at #62 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart for a week, staying on the chart for 21 weeks, #47 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart, and #43 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales along with the song, "Drive My Love."
The fourth single, "You Don't Have to Cry" peaked at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 19 weeks.
The last single from the album, "No How, No Way" peaked at #29 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.

By 1986, the duo went their separate ways and focused on their own solo careers.

In 1993, Angela married Ronald Isley (lead singer of the Isley Brothers), but they separated a decade later. In 2003, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, but after successful surgery and 6 months of chemotherapy, the cancer was in remission.

In 2010, Angela performed live on the "Mo'Nique Show" and on the TV One documentary series, "Unsung" where she revealed that René was violent towards her. He declined to be interview for the show.

René formed Multi-Media Communications, which operated radio stations from 2008 to 2012.

Sweet Sable

Sweet Sable (born Ceybil Jefferies from Brooklyn, New York) was a female R&B\hip-hop singer during the '90s.
In 1991, she released a dance music album "Let the Music Take Control" under her real name. It's unknown how or if the album was successful.
In 1994, Cebyl resurfaced under the name "Sweet Sable" and released her debut album "Old Times' Sake" on Street Life Records. The album peaked at #70 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The title song (which was featured on the "Above the Rim" movie soundtrack) peaked at #93 on the Billboard Hot 100, #43 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #15 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks.
The second single from the album "Tonight" peaked at #45 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks.
The last single from the album "Love Thang" peaked at #74 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks.
In 1996, Sweet Sable released the single "I'll Never Go Back," but it didn't make the charts and her next album "Love On My Mind" was shelved.

Back to her real name, Ceybil Jefferies, she continued to work as a vocalist on several house music songs throughout the late 90s/early 2000s. Her last known solo song was "Thank U For Blessing" in 2004 and she apparently went on to sing gospel music.

According to a comment I received from YouTube, Ceybil contracted neurosarcoidosis several years ago and is now completely blind. In August of 2012, there was a surprise benefit for her which she was scheduled to attend despite her ailment.

The Voices

The Voices were a singing group during the early '90s that consisted of sisters LaPetra & LaToya McMoore, Monique Wilson and Arike Rice.
In 1992, the group released their debut and only album "Just the Beginning" which peaked at #66 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The group's first single "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" became their biggest hit to date, peaking at #72 on the Billboard Hot 100, #31 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart and #14 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks. Tia and Tamera Mowry were featured in the music video for "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah."
The group's second single "M.M.D.R.N.F. (My Mama Didn't Raise No Fool)" peaked at #53 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 12 weeks.

The last single from the album "Cloudy With a Chance of Tears" peaked at #97 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 2 weeks. After that, the group faded into obscurity.

In the late 90s/early 2000s, Arike was a member of music group, Before Dark. According to the Isle of Deserted Pop Stars, she continues to record music & work as a backup dancer for artists such as Janet Jackson, Kanye West, the Black Eyed Peas and Missy Elliott.

LaToya (who is known as Josie G) married Marc Gordon from R&B group, LeVert & has continued to pursue a solo career.

LaPetra enlisted in the Army reserve as a part of the Hawaiian National Guard and even served in Iraq. As for Monique Wilson, it's unknown what she is up to.
