Mes'ay

Mes'ay was a female R&B group that consisted of Angela Watley, Leticia Castaneda and Mia Ann Belle. Not much information is given about them, but they were signed to the Superstar International Records label.
In 1986, Mes'ay released their first single "Ain't That Peculiar" which didn't appear to make the Billboard charts at all.
In 1987, their second single "Climb the Walls" managed to peak at #71 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.

Their last single "Give Me Love" flopped and after that, it seemed as if Mes'ay faded into obscurity. Leticia provided backing vocals on Big Noise's album "Bang!" in 1989.

As for Angela and Mia, it is unknown what they are up to these days.

Marc Sadane

Marc Sadane (born in Savannah, Georgia) was an R&B singer from the early '80s. He first began singing in the local church and later became the musical director for his local choir before moving on to doing off-Broadway acting & singing in New York.

While in New York, Marc studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, but later gained an interest in music and later became the lead singer for Tungsten Steele. In 1977, he left Tungsten Steele for a solo career and became the vocalist for the house band at Mikell's. He toured with Stephanie Mills which gained him some popularity.

Marc sang in several clubs in New Jersey before catching the attention of producers/songwriters James Mtume and Reggie Lucas.
In 1981, he was signed to Warner Bros. Records and during that same year, he released his debut album "One Way Love Affair" which didn't appear to make the Billboard charts at all.
The title song peaked at #34 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 13 weeks, becoming his highest appearance on the R&B charts to date.
The follow-up single "Sit Up" didn't match the success of his previous single, peaking only at #78 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 5 weeks.
In 1982, Marc released his follow-up album "Exciting" which also didn't appear to make the Billboard album charts.
The first single from the album "One Minute From Love" peaked at #78 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 3 weeks.
The follow-up single, the title song peaked at #64 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 6 weeks.
After the release of his second album, Marc took a hiatus from music until 1988 when he recorded the song "Why Can't You Believe in Me" which was produced by Darryl Payne for his showcase album "Past, Present & Future."

The song also featured backing vocals from Will Downing. After that, it seemed as if Marc faded into obscurity.

According to the soulwalking.co.uk website, Marc has been keeping a low music profile and according to videos on YouTube, it appears that he continues to perform live.

Yours Truly


Yours Truly was an R&B trio from the '90s that consisted of members Jerry L. Brinson Jr., Ricky Jones and Terence De Vaughn Brooks.
In 1991, they released their debut album "Truly Yours" on Motown Records. It's unknown how or if the album made the charts at all.
The first single from the album, "Come And Get It" peaked at #44 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 12 weeks, becoming the trio's only highest chart appearance to date.
The follow-up single "Hold Me" peaked at #88 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 4 weeks.

After that, it seems as if Yours Truly has faded into obscurity. It is unknown what the members of the trio are up to today.

Rick & Rich

Rick (born Rick Rodgers) & Rich (born Rich Harris) were a short-lived hip-hop/R&B duo from the early 90s. Not much information is given about them, but they were signed to Chrysalis Records.

In 1991, they released their only single "Pump (Let's Go)" which managed to peak at #82 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 4 weeks.

After that, it seemed as if Rick & Rich faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from them since.

Split Image

Split Image was an R&B vocal group from Los Angeles, California that consisted of Dennis Johnson, Terrence Hatter, Jackie Anderson and Dion Overstreet.

In 1987, the group released their first single "Get Ready." It's unknown how or if the single made the charts at all.
A year later, they released their only album "Life in the City" which peaked at #64 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The second single "Toss It Up" peaked at #74 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 6 weeks.
The last two singles from the album "Holdin' On" and "Players Get Played On Too" didn't appear to make much impact on the charts.

After that, it seemed as if Split Image faded away and into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from them since.

Spunk

Spunk was an R&B trio that consisted of producers Jesse Boyce, Jimmy Levine and Rich Tufo. Not much information is given about them, but they were signed to the Gold Coast Entertainment record label.

In 1981, they released their only album "Tighten it Up" which didn't appear to make the Billboard album charts at all.
The first single "Get What You Want" peaked at #72 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 4 weeks.
The follow-up single "Love Looks Good On You" flopped and after that, it seemed as if Spunk faded into obscurity.

Soultry

Soultry was an R&B group from Arizona. Not much information is given about them, but they were signed to Motown Records.

In 1995, they released their self-titled debut album. It's unknown how or if the album made the charts at all.
The first single released from the album "Cash Money" didn't appear to make the Billboard music charts at all.
The second single "I'll Get Mine" peaked at #93 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 6 weeks and became their only chart appearance on the Billboard charts.
The last single from the album "Where Do Broken Hearts Belong" failed to make any impact on the charts. After that, it seemed as if Soultry faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from them since.

Frankie


Frankie (born George Franklin Jackson in 1978 in Washington, D.C.) was an R&B singer from the '90s.

Frankie met music producer Chucki Thompson when he was 14 years old through a mutual acquaintance which happened to be Notch Howell of music group Born Jamericans. He was signed to Chucki's Epic Records imprint label Chucklife.
In 1997, Frankie released his only album "My Heart Belongs To You" which peaked at #93 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The only single from the album to chart was "If I Had You" which peaked at #108 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and #46 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks. The song also featured rapper Jadakiss.


The follow-up singles "I Have Love" and "One Last Time" failed to chart at all and after that, it seems as if Frankie has faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from him since.

Karen Diggs

Karen Diggs was a female dance/R&B singer from the '80s. Not much information is given about her, but she was signed to Silver Cloud Records.

In 1983, Karen released her only single "Congratulations." It's unknown how or if the single made any impact on the charts.

After that, it seems as if Karen has faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from her since the '80s.

By All Means

By All Means was an R&B group from the late '80s/early '90s that consisted of lead vocalist James Varner (who also played the trumpet & trombone), vocalist Lynn Roderick (born Mikelyn Roderick) and guitarist Billy Sheppard.

Lynn worked as an actress in television shows such as "Moonlighting" and "Cagney & Lacey." Billy was part of a music group called Skool Boyz. In 1985, James and Lynn met while they toured with Bill Withers. Producer Stan Sheppard was in the audience and suggested that they form a band with his brother Billy.
In 1988, the group released their self-titled debut album which peaked at #40 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart. In the United Kingdom, the album peaked at #80 on the U.K. Albums chart.
The first single "I Surrender To Your Love" peaked at #65 on the U.K. Singles chart and #26 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 13 weeks.
The second single from the album "Somebody Save Me" peaked at #91 on the U.K. Singles chart, but didn't appear to make the charts in the United States.
The third single "I'm The One Who Loves You" managed to peak at #17 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.
The last single from the album "You Decided To Go" peaked at #94 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 3 weeks.
In 1989, By All Means released their sophomore album "Beyond A Dream" which peaked at #160 on the Billboard 200 and #36 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single "Let's Get It On" (a tribute to Marvin Gaye) peaked at #88 on the U.K. Singles chart, #29 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #3 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks.

The follow-up single from the album "Do You Remember" peaked at #17 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.
In 1992, By All Means released their last album "It's Real" which peaked at #55 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.

The only single to chart was "The Feeling I Get" which peaked at #48 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 12 weeks.
After the release of their third and last album, By All Means disbanded. Lynn has worked as a background singer, jingle session singer, performed in the play "Crowns" and released a solo album "Copasetic Is" in 2007.

Lynn Roderick and James Varner are the parents of R&B singer Elle Varner. They have both made appearances on Elle's 2012 debut album "Perfectly Imperfect" as background singers, songwriters and producers on a few tracks. It is unknown what Billy Sheppard is up to these days.

The Funk Club was an R&B music act from the late '80s. Not much information is given about them, but they were signed to Scotti Bros. Records.

In 1989, they released their only album "Funky and Then Some." It's unknown how or if the album made the charts.

The only single released from the album was "Go Funk Club" which went nowhere on the charts. After that, it seems as if the Funk Club faded into obscurity. Their whereabouts are unknown.

Valerie George

Valerie George (born in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a female R&B singer from the 90s. She started singing when she was 8 years old.

She attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (or NOCCA) for music while attending Walter L. Cohen Sr. High School. She led her senior high school band to win first place.

Valerie later attended Southern University where she majored in Music Education and minored in Instrumental Music. She played and sang with the Southern University Marching Band and Jazz Ensemble.

In 1983, she sang on national television when her singing group perform at a Saints & Jets football game on Monday Night Football. In 1987, Valerie sang for millions of people on Bourbon Street.

Six years later, Valerie moved to New York City to start a music career. Music producer Kyle West brought Valerie to  the studio where she sang a song that she wrote for Toni Braxton, but the song never got to her because Uptown Records president, Andre Harrell liked the song so much, he signed Valerie in 1996 and took her to Motown Records.
During that same year, Valerie released her debut single "Being Single (Ain't Easy)" on Motown Records, which peaked at #87 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 4 weeks.

Her song "Emotionally in Love" was also featured in the movie, "The Nutty Professor."

These days (according to Valerie's MySpace page), she is the mother of two and continues to perform in New Orleans with her band, L.A. Band.

Oliver Who? (born Darryl W. Caliman from Detroit, Michigan) was a male R&B singer from the 90s. Not much information is given about him, but he was signed to the Zoo Entertainment record label.

In 1992, he released his debut album "Shaka Who Who?" which didn't appear to make the charts at all.
The only single to chart was "Clever" which peaked at #91 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 3 weeks.

After that, nothing much was heard from Oliver Who? since the 90s. It's unknown what he's doing today.
