When in Rome
Michael and original member Andy O'Connell were recruited by Clive to replace the departed members of his Manchester-based music group, Beau Leisure.
Andrew and Clive began to write songs together & later they both saw Andrew and had him join their performances. Later on, Andy left the group and the remaining members of the group recorded some demos (sometimes with Andrew's friend, Corrine Drewery, who is a member of Swing Out Sister) while looking for a record deal.
When in Rome were signed by Virgin UK Records subsidiary, 10 Records. Music producers Ben Rogan (who worked with Sade) and Richard James Burgess took interest in their song, "The Promise" which was first issued as a 12 inch dance disk.
When the song became popular, topping Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, their record label ordered an album.
In the UK, the song peaked at #58 on the UK Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 6 weeks in 1989.
After that, the trio disbanded in 1990 due to musical differences.
Michael Floreale moved to the United States and lives in Dallas, Texas where he composes music for television & film. In 2006, Michael reformed When in Rome with singer\songwriter John Ceravolo.
Today, When in Rome (now the Wir) has toured the US and South America with other various 80's group. They have completed work on a new album which is planned to be released this year with a tour to follow.
Clive Farrington & Andrew Mann reformed in 2009 under the name "When in Rome UK," but Michael has trademarked the name "When in Rome" which was unsuccessfully challenged by Clive & Andrew.
Clive & Andrew are billed as "Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann formerly of When in Rome" for their US gigs in order to comply with the legal trademark claim.
