Phajja

Phajja was a female R&B trio that consisted of sisters Kena & Nakia Epps (from Chicago, Illinois) and Karen Johnson (from Boston, Massachussetts).

In their teenage years, Kena and Nakia focused on dance and movie careers while Karen had dreams of becoming a singer.

When the girls moved to Boston, their aspirations switched to music. They teamed up with Karen and soon got a record contract with Warner Bros. Records.
In 1997, Phajja released their debut album, "Seize the Moment" which peaked at #79 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single "What Are You Waiting For?" peaked at #112 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and #30 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 13 weeks.
The follow-up single and Phajja's highest-charting hit to date "So Long (Well Well Well)" peaked at #87 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #30 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. On May 17, 1997, Phajja appeared on "Soul Train."
In 1999, Phajja released their sophomore album, "Meeting in the Ladies' Room" which failed to make any impact on the charts.
The only single released was "Checkin' You Out" which didn't appear to make much impact on the Billboard charts. After that, it seemed as if Phajja had faded into obscurity.

These days, Nakia (now Nakia Epps-Williams) started Shades of Jade Enterprise in 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia and is also a parent.

Kena (now Kena Sage) continues to be in the music biz as a solo singer. She also wrote songs for artists such as Mario Winans, Montell Jordan, Devine Evans, and Mizchief and is currently working on new music.

It's unknown what Karen Johnson is up to these days.

Seize the Moment! a statement to live by. Your music has touched me DEEPLY. I have been singing the songs on this cd for years. I feel the lyrics and the music rocks my soul. I can't find the words to express how I feel when I sing these songs with you ladies. Thank you for taking me there!
