Charles & Eddie

Charles (born Charles Pettigrew on May 12, 1963) and Eddie (born Eddie Chacon) were a pop\soul music duo from the early 90s.

Eddie grew up in Hayward and Castro Valley, California, starting his first band when he was 12 years old with neighborhood friends Cliff Burton (of Metallica) and Mike Bordin (of Faith No More). Later on, he moved to Los Angeles, London, Miami, and Copehagen where his career moved towards producing and songwriting. He wrote a few hit songs in Europe.

Charles was raised in Philly and went on to study jazz vocals at the Berkelee College of Music in Boston while singing as the lead singer with a music act called Down Avenue.
In 1992, Charles & Eddie released their debut album "Duophonic" which peaked at #153 on the Billboard 200, #81 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart and #4 on Billboard's Heatseekers albums chart. The album peaked at #19 in the UK.
The duo's first single and biggest hit to date "Would I Lie to You" which peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, #6 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream chart, #27 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, #15 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart and #59 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, stying on the chart for 15 weeks.

The song also peaked at #1 in the UK, Austria, Germany, nd New Zealand. The song was certified Platinum in the UK, Silver in France and Gold in Austria & Germany.
The second single from Charles & Eddie's debut album "NYC (Can You Believe This City)" peaked at #33 on the UK Singles chart, but didn't appear to chart at all in the US.
The last single from the album "House is Not a Home" didn't chart in the US, but peaked at #29 on the UK Singles chart.

Charles and Eddie were featured on the soundtracks to "True Romance," "Addams Family Values" and "Super Mario Bros."
In 1995, Charles & Eddie released their second and last album to date "Chocolate Milk." The album didn't reach the same success as their previous one.
The single "I'm Gonna Love You (24-7 365)" was moderately successful in the UK, but the next released single from the album, "Jealousy" didn't chart at all.

After that, it seemed as if Charles & Eddie had faded into obscurity. Sadly on April 6, 2001, Charles Pettigrew passed away of cancer at the age of 37. He was recording an album with Tom Tom Club's Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth at the time of his death.
Eddie currently lives in Los Angeles and fronts the electronic music duo The Polyamorous Affair with his partner, Sissy Sainte Marie.

In 2009, they released their debut album "Bolshevik Disco." In 2005, "Would I Lie To You" was remixed by Musikk featuring Eddie Chacon which became a #1 hit song in Europe.
