Hi-Five


Hi-Five is a Texas R&B quintet consisting of members Tony Thompson, Roderick "Pooh" Clark, Marcus Sanders, Russell Neal, and Toriano Easley. (Toriano was later replaced by Treston Irby).
In 1990, Hi-Five released their-self-titled debut album on Jive Records. The album peaked at #38 on the Billboard 200 chart and #1 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The group's first single, "I Just Can't Handle It" peaked at #10 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 21 weeks.
Their third single, "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)" became their biggest hit to date, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart for 2 weeks in March of 1991, staying on the chart for 23 weeks.
The third single, "I Can't Wait Another Minute" peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart for a week in August of 1991, staying on the charts for 20 weeks.
The last single from the album, "Just Another Girlfriend" peaked at #88 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #41 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks.
In 1992, Hi-Five released their sophomore album, "Keep It Goin' On" which peaked at #82 on the Billboard 200 and #9 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.

The second single from the album, "Quality Time" peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100, #23 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, and #3 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 21 weeks.
The group's second single from the album, "She's Playing Hard to Get" peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, #2 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks, #10 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream chart, #7 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, and #35 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The third single, "Mary Mary" peaked at #50 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks. After the release of their second album, Pooh Clark was involved in a near-fatal car accident.
In 1993, Hi-Five released their third album, "Faithful" which peaked at #105 on the Billboard 200 chart and #23 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single, "Unconditional Love" peaked at #92 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #21 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. The song was featured on the "Menace II Society" movie soundtrack.
The second single, "Never Should've Let You Go" peaked at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #10 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 24 weeks. It was featured on the "Sister Act 2" movie soundtrack.
The third single from the album, the title song peaked at #52 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.
The last single from the album, "What Can I Say To You (To Justify My Love)" featuring R&B group, Nuttin' Nyce, peaked at #72 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 5 weeks.
After that, Hi-Five went their separate ways. In 1995, Tony Thompson released his solo album, "Sexsational" that had a minor hit song, "I Wanna Love Like That."
In 2005, Hi-Five was re-incarnated with four new members including Tony Thompson's little brother, Jordan. A year later in 2006, they released their fourth album, "The Return" on Tony's independent record label, N'Depth.

On June 1, 2007, Tony Thompson passed away at the age of 31 from a freon ovedose due to his history of huffing. In 2011, Treston Irby released his debut solo single, "Everything" under the name "Tru$" on his own independent record label, Bronx Most Wanted Ent.
In 2012, Treston, Shannon Gill and Marcus Sanders reformed Hi-Five with two new members, Dre Wonda & Faruq Evans and released a new single, "Favorite Girl" which is available on iTunes and other digital media outlets.
