Lisette Melendez

Lisette Melendez (born in 1967 in Harlem, New York) is a female freestyle\dance singer from the '90s.

She was inspired by her mother & aunt who sang in a church choir and community theater. During her teen years, Lisette perfected her singing voice by emulating Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand. During high school, she became a fan of Lisa Lisa.

In 1988, Lisette got her big break by singing back-up vocals on a dance track for music producer, Carlos Berrios (who worked with Corina, Samantha Fox and Sweet Sensation).
In 1991, she released her debut album "Together Forever" which peaked at #7 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart.
The title song peaked at #35 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April of 1991, #31 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in February of 1991 and #11 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The follow-up single "A Day in My Life (Without You)" peaked at #49 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #30 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in November of 1991 and #6 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The last single from the album, "Never Say Never" peaked at #45 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in March of 1992 and #12 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
In 1994, Lisette released his sophomore album, "True to Life" which peaked at #28 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart and #100 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single from the album, "Goody Goody" which peaked at #53 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February of 1994, #16 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart, #44 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in December of 1993, #23 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #95 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart in February of 1994, staying on the chart for 2 weeks.
The follow-up single from the album "Will You Ever Save Me" peaked at #38 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart.
In 1998, Lisette released her third album "Un Poco De Mi," changing her style from freestyle to Latin music. The title song managed to peak at #23 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart and #8 on Billboard's Latin Tropical\Salsa Airplay chart.
During that same year, Lisette released her fourth album "Imagination" which didn't generate a lot of success.
Two singles were released from the album: "Time Passes By" and "Make the Way," which didn't appear to make the charts. In 2005, Lisette teamed up with freestyle musician Cynthia as the duo Liscyn and released their single "I Can't Change Your Mind."

In 2008, she teamed up once again with Carlos Berrios and performed two new tracks "I Need a Lover" and "Don't Ever Say" on the albums "Don't Look Back, Sessions 1 & 2."

These days, Lisette appears to be active in the music business and she continues to perform as of 2006.
