Lisa Fischer

Lisa Fischer (born Lisa Melonie Fischer on December 1, 1958 in New York City, New York) is an R&B singer/songwriter. She is known for her wide, high vocal range and has sung back-up vocals for various artists.
In 1983, Lisa released a freestyle single, "On the Upside" under the name "Xēna." She also recorded a club track called "Only Love (Shadows)" which was briefly featured in the film, "Beat Street."

Lisa initially began her music career providing backing vocals for artists such as Melba Moore and Billy Ocean. She has also worked with many other famous singers as a session vocalist and sideman.

She accompanied Luther Vandross as a backup singer on his tours and albums until his death in addition to other artists such as Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack and Teddy Pendergrass.

In 1989, Lisa started singing as a session singer for the Rolling Stones and accompanied them on their tours.

In 1990, Lisa appeared on "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" movie soundtrack with the song "Glad to Be Alive" with Teddy Pendergrass. The song peaked at #31 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.
In 1991, Lisa released her debut album "So Intense" which peaked at #100 on the Billboard 200 and #5 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
Lisa scored a hit with the first single "How Can I Ease the Pain" which peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, #16 on Billboard's Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and topped Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart for 2 weeks, staying on the chart for 20 weeks.

In 1992, the song won a Grammy Award for "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" and a Soul Train Music Award for "Best R&B/Soul Single, Female."
The follow-up single, "Save Me" peaked at #74 on the Billboard Hot 100, #2 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart, #12 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #7 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.

The last single from the album, the title song, peaked at #15 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 15 weeks.

In 1992, Lisa was featured on the "Home Alone 2 Lost in New York" movie soundtrack with her version of "Oh Come All Ye Faithful."
In 1993, Lisa was featured on the "Made in America" movie soundtrack with the song "Colors of Love" which peaked at #24 on Billboard's Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.

After that, Lisa focused on being a backing singer. The reason for that is because she enjoyed being a backing singer more than a solo artist.

In addition to touring with the Rolling Stones, she has also toured with Tina Turner and appeared on Sting's album "If On a Winter's Night..." and performed with Sting & his band live in Durham Cathedral.

In 2010, Lisa appeared at the CareFusion Newport Jazz Festival in Newport, Rhode Island with jazz trumpeter Chris Botti and continued to tour with him through 2010.

Lisa remained a guest artist with Chris Botti's band in 2011 and continued to appear at their 2012 concert. These days, she still continues to work as a backing vocalist, most recently appearing on Elements of Life's 2013 album "Eclipse."
